Excavation Safety  

Excavation activity carries with it major risks — including cave-ins, utility strikes, and hazardous atmospheres. Incidents can be sudden and severe – yet preventable. This course trains Workers and Supervisors to identify excavation hazards, implement safe work systems, and maintain control throughout the excavation lifecycle.

  • Identify types of excavation and associated hazards
  • Apply protective systems like trench boxes and benching
  • Recognize signs of soil movement and structural instability
  • Plan for utility detection and service isolation
  • Conduct pre-work inspections and continuous hazard assessments
  • Understand roles of competent persons and site supervisors
  • Implement access/egress, barricading, and monitoring controls
